That's it. I'm dying my hair black or something.  I'm blonde and proud of it.  However, lately I've been "enhancing" my blondeness and have gone a few shades lighter than what is my normal state of blonde.  I've discovered that blondes are treated like they're idiots.

Hubby and I took the kids to a festival at the park on Saturday. Home Depot had a tent where you could build bird houses with your kids.  Overheard  by my hubby from two women behind him, "It can't be that hard. Look - the blonde is doing it."  The blonde was me.  Tonight I was at a Business After 5  meeting (networking group) and discovered that men tended to talk "ditzy" to me.  I wanted to say "Look, I get it.  Don't bother talking down to me, and you acting like an idiot isn't impressing me at all."

I have a business degree,  have become a childbirth educator, taught computer courses, currently responsible in bringing in $350 000 of revenue a year for my place of employment, working 20 hours a week.  I manage 20 plus instructors and over 50 different programs, courses and certificate programs.  I am raising three intelligent children, am a caring wife, knit, cook, bake, manage a household and take care of a garden.  I am not stupid.  Being blonde might be fun but it sure takes the brains out of a person.

School is now running smoothly - bus schedules are figured out, kids are getting used to their teachers and childcare and we're getting into a schedule. Whew!

The princess and my oldest monkey have a strange habit of wanting to do things perfectly the first time around. I'm sure I know where they get it from (me!) but just the same, it's quite hard to get used to. The princess is in ballet and came home crying the other night. Apparently she's expecting pirouettes by day two, not running back and forth in the room holding little pieces of gauzy fabric. I don't think her little five year old brain has got the concept of baby steps (remember when your baby brother was tiny? He rolled over first, then crawled, then stood, walked and then ran.  He couldn't run until he did everything else first. Ballet is like that too.). I sure hope that next week's class goes easier.

The oldest monkey is in judo. I haven't gone to a class yet as I've been putting the other monkeys to bed but apparently he's REALLY enjoying it. Maybe too much so. We have to talk to him that holding down the smallest kid in the class doesn't mean you're really good in judo - just that you're bigger than him and he doesn't have the skills yet to get out of the hold.

Anyways, it's 9:15 and I'm still in my pj's. Time to have a shower and get going for the day. At least the dishes are done, shopping list figured out and the kids fed. If I'm behind, so what? :)  I'm enjoying my day off.  I might even stop at the LYS today and check out what they have. Like I need to buy MORE yarn.  Actually, I always want to buy more yarn, I just don't need to.

Oooh, the new knitty is up! As usual, I love lots of patterns but have little time to do them all. Oh well - dreaming is part of the fun.deformed toe

Is it just me, or is this toe too pointy?  I'm making a pair of toe up socks for my dad and started off with 8 stitches. something tells me I should have started with at least 12, if not more.  I may have an ugly foot, but I know that for the most part, it's pretty normal and my toes don't start off this narrow.  I've decided that hubby will get these reject socks - he keeps eyeing them up and making comments on how I NEVER knit him ANYTHING.  How quickly did he forget about the sweater that never ends.

one skein giftI've finished my one skein gift.  Almost.  I just have to weave in the ends and ship it off.  You'd think I'd get right on that. finishing isn't as fun as the actually part of knitting.  I'm guess I'm more of the a process person rather than a finished product. What does that say about me?

What a freakishly long week.  I'm so glad it's done.

We're getting settled into a routine.  The youngest monkey is having issues at daycare. I'm so happy that I put him on the supported childcare waiting list a year ago and it's come through starting this month.  It's been a tough transition and he's become a safety risk for the kids at daycare. It makes it hard on me, coming to the daycare and finding out all that he's done during the day. I know he's a beautiful, caring child that just doesn't know how to socially interact with other children.  He'll learn, but in the meantime, it's hard.

My granni is back in her home, receiving additional support until they know for sure she can take care of herself. Yay!  What a relief that she's back and doing better.

I dropped my daughter off at school on Friday only to discover that she's going to school with a little girl whose mother I went to school with.  It's a small world.   My daughter was so happy that she's at school - she told me that she knows when she's happy as her heart beats really fast and her heart was beating really fast all day.  But, it's not going to burst.  I laughed and laughed at that one.

Shhhh - don't say anything to me. I'm exhausted.

Woke up at 5:45 a.m. to run the stairs with a friend of mine. Got home at 7 a.m., got the kids ready and was out the door at 8:10 a.m. for the first day of school. Dropped the two youngest monkeys at daycare, took my oldest up to his new classroom and met his teachers. Had to meet my daughter's kindegarten class at 10 a.m., stopped at a store on the way there to look for ballet shoes. Went to the other school, met her teacher and was done by 11 a.m. Headed over to another store and Walmart to find ballet shoes and tights. Found said tights and went back to my son's school to pick him up at noon.  Picked up daughter up from daycare and went to work for 30 minutes to check up on things.  Went to the hospital to visit my granni, to Safeway for milk and then back to daycare to pick up the youngest monkey. Found out it was another bad day for him. Came home, did some banking, made phone calls and then went to ballet class at 3:30. Hubby met us at ballet, I drove into town, signed papers and got insurance for our NEW VAN! Picked up the family and drove to get our new van. Stopped at the bank, and then at a friend's house to show off new van.  Stopped at Safway to pick up stuff for supper and rolled in through the doors at 6:50 p.m. Made supper, put the kids to bed and now I'm looking at the dishes and think "UGH".  No wonder I'm tired.  If anyone tells me I have a day off when I'm not at work, they can shove it.

Happy Birthday, Lara! You've been my pain in the ass baby sister for 31 years. I hope you'll be around for at least that many more.  This picture was taken December 31, 1999 - I thought it was pretty funny.

It was my daughter's and DS#2's first day at daycare. I was greeted at the door this afternoon by three staff to let me know how my son's day went. Let's just say it's a good thing we arranged for him to get supported childcare.   I know that it will all work out and he's getting help in the daycare setting.  The poor little goober is just a handful.

At the knitting parent list, we're doing a one skein gift exchange. I'm done my gift and now just have to send it off.  I will take pictures before doing that, though.

Tomorrow summer, as we know it, ends.  I can honestly say that I'm very happy about it as the kids try to kill each other for yet another day. Tomorrow is my daughter and my youngest son's first day at the daycare.  School doesn't officially start until Wednesday as tomorrow is a pro-d day for schools. And even then, my oldest goes to school for only a total of two hours.   Whoa - the pressure of it all. Oh well -at least someone is going to take them for a few hours! :)   I hope all goes well in these next few days.

Tomorrow is my sister's birthday and I have no clue what to get her. She has far more discretionary income than what I have and pretty much gets what she wants.  She's just as hard to buy for as my parents are. If anyone has any ideas of what to give a 31 year old woman with no kids and few hobbies, let me know.  She doesn't cook or bake.  She likes to play video games and will spend hours doing so. She used to be a dj and enjoys her music.  She's thinking of taking up crocheting - maybe I'll buy her the Happy Hooker?

*sigh* The kids are screaming again.  Only three more hours until bedtime - can I wait that long?

I'm working on my oldest son's sweater.  I've promised him a hoodie sweater, zip up front with a maple leaf on the front.  I've looked high and low for a pattern and can't find a thing.  So, I've resorted to designing my own based on other patterns.

I'm not sure if I've figured it out right.  Once this is done, then I have to figure out the pattern.  Guess being smart in math has its positive points.

The fair was great! We saw the exhibits, including cows, sheep, pigs, goats, horses, flowers, plants, vegetables, baked goods, ducks, chicken.... I could go on forever. We ate poutine, horse blankets, chinese food, ice cream and flavoured ice. The kids went on lots of rides (I think our daughter won't touch a scary ride for the next few years as she didn't like her first scary ride!  She quickly picked only "baby" rides after that) and came home dusty and exhausted.  What a great day.

I spent my day today making plum and amaretto jam as well as autumn fruit jam.  I enjoy making jam and jellies and plan to give them away for Christmas gifts this year.  I found banana bread you can make in a jar, so I'll do that to go with the jam.

OMG - do I ever sound like suzy home maker...

Every year, there is an agricultural exhibition held at a small town north of us. It draws in tens of thousands of people every day and it is one of the best things to do on a Labour Day weekend.  We're heading to the IPE this afternoon where we'll get to load up on rides, cotton candy, horse blankets, check out the music and all in all, have fun.  Who knows, maybe we'll even check out the rooster crowing contest.
