Well, my job is posted and now I have to apply for it. Only 7 days for me to figure out an amazing resume to wow and convince the panel that *I'm* the one they want to hire. Great.

The kids costumes are done. I was going to be a supermom and make their costumes. Yeah. Now that you've finished laughing your head off, what ended up happening is I reused costume parts from last year. Sort of. My daughter wanted to be a princess.  Take part of the angel costume from last year, add a princess hat and a wand and *poof*, you have a princess. My eldest wanted to be a pirate. More specifically, the pirate from Pirates of the Carribbean. Considering he's never watched the show, I don't know why he's so hung up on hit. However, the Superstore had great deals on pirate costumes and so was created a pirate. As for my youngest, he wanted to be batman. Originally I bought black sweatpants and a sweatshirt to put a batman symbol on.  But, I found this great pair of pyjamas (which he needs) and now he's a great Batman. Shopping is done.

Now the kids are asking about me and what I'm going to be for Halloween.

Happy Birthday, granni!  You're 89 years old and still going strong. Yay!

As usual, we weren't invited to the family shinding that went with the birthday. Apparently, there just wasn't enough space for us all, and it's getting colder outside and the kids don't have space to play, and granni gets tired out, and, etc. etc.  Whatever.  I don't understand why perfect strangers to my granni can get invited to the party but not us. Considering we've heard the same excuses many times during Thanksgiving, Christmas and family birthdays, the excuses might as well be taped and played back to us. At least hearing excuses is better than hearing about a family dinner the day of the dinner and realizing we weren't invited.

It really bothers me, but now I've started to get the screw it attitude. We're making our own plans for holidays without waiting for the family invite. And, if the family invite does come with us having other plans, then we just don't go. One year, we thought the family was getting together for Christmas Eve dinner.  They did, but we weren't invited. It being an adult dinner and all. I have no issues with an adult dinner - hell, I'd like more of those for myself. I would just like to have the option of whether or not I could come to the family adult dinner by hiring a babysitter.  I also don't have an issue with family having a dinner without us.  I do have an issue with family getting together ALL THE TIME without us.

On well - things didn't get this way until we had more than one kid. Then we, as a family, are too loud, too busy, and too much energy for adults to handle. I'm not sure if it's a testament to our child raising abilities, but it still pisses me off. Considering I've had friends and other family members comment on how well behaved our children are, I think it's other issues.

A conversation heard today while the kids play playdough at the kitchen table:

Cole: "Look Kass, they're married"

I turn around to see two playdough "people" sitting side by side.

Cole: "Aw, they're kissing"  Kissing sounds ensue.

(Here's me thinking - aw, my son has such a feminine side.  How nice is that)

Cole: "Oh no, a knife is coming! Aaaaah! They're being cut up!"   Appropriate cutting and dying sounds accompany the knife.

So much for the everlasting love of the playdough people. Makes me wonder what role models hubby and I are demonstrating as married folks.

I've finished the body of my youngest's sweater. You can imagine my excitement when I discovered that it's going to fit. Now I'm working on the sleeves and hopefully will be done this weekend. Of course we have friends over for Saturday night so I'm not sure if I'll get knitting done. At least I cleaned my house today for tomorrow.

Hubby is taking Cole for a hockey game so I should spend quality time with the other two monkeys. I'm thinking of going to the human soup and see if I can tire them out. Or, maybe I'll just put them to bed early.  Hmmm - the temptation of it all.  Now that the weather is cooler, it's getting harder to find things to do. At least I can enjoy this flower inside, thanks to a darling friend.

For the first time in two months, I went for a run/walk today. OMG - I am out of shape. I'm sure the poor people that drove past me almost ran off the road in the horror of it all. At least I got off my growing butt and did something about it. Linden loved the run - he got to sit in the jogging stroller and read. As usual, I work while the kids sit back and reap the rewards. :)

TGIT.  Given that my work week ends on a Thursday and most of the poor people out there still have to work another day, I get to gloat.  For a three day work week because of a long weekend, I still feel like I've worked my ass of this week.  I'll be relaxing in front of the boob tube tonight (get that one, google!), drinking an adult bevy and drool over Grissom on CSI.

On the shower front - still not fixed. Hubby, being the perfectionist he is, hasn't quite finished the job. At least tonight he'll be finishing the window trim and will caulk the seals, which will at least give the tenant a shower to use for tomorrow.  However, we did decide last night that caulk sounds like a dirty word.  It's amazing where you can go with that word.  Must have been the adhesive that hubby was putting on the shower panels.

Parent teacher interviews this week and all is well. Our eldest is finally growing up and curbing his enthusiasm in a classroom environment.  He's doing amazingly well in all of his subjects - we're so proud of him. I couldn't make my daughter's interview as I couldn't find childcare for the kids. I'm waiting for the report from hubby soon.

Oh great, kids are screaming. Either someone is dead or feelings were hurt. Given that it's my daughter who's screaming the loudest, I think it's feelings. She's decided that she doesn't need to sleep at night. I'm hoping that this changes REAL soon.

Well, the dinner was eaten and all went well. The pies were perfect. I used this recipe here for the pie. It was perfect. Nice and light and the spices were perfect.

We didn't do much today. We had planned to go on a hike at Adams River, but instead went to the Farmer's Market and then spent lots of money at Home Depot. What was going to be a $5 job turned into a $500 job. The tub upstairs was leaking downstairs. We checked it out, thought that the insert needed to be recaulked. Hubby pulled back the insert, only to find that the gypsum underneath was absolutely rotten.  New gypsum, jigsaw, insert, adhesive and everything else included equals an unexpected weekend job.  Oh well.

I started working on my youngest's sweater. I'm working it in one piece up to the armholes and that's where I've ended up to as of tonight.  I think it's looking great, especially for left over yarn that's hanging around. I think I'm going to line it with fleece when I'm done.  I just need to get organized enough to do it.

And finally, just for fun, a picture of my youngest dancing around in his sister's fancy dress up dress. Something to blackmail him with when he's 16, of course.  He's going to just love me for this one.

Happy Thanksgiving!  Well, not officially until tomorrow, but we usually celebrate it on  Sunday. We're having hubby's brother and my aunt over for supper tonight. My parents and sister are in Ontario for a wedding and hubby's mother is off visiting her sister. A quiet evening but fun, just the same.

On the menu:

  • Cheese, antipasto and crackers
  • Baked ham
  • Garlic Mashed potatoes
  • Cumin beets
  • Cauliflower
  • Tomato and cucumber salad
  • Tossed salad
  • Pumpkin and applie pie with whipped cream.

Yummy! You'd think I'm having an army over, with the amount of food we're having.

I finished a pair of wristlets for me and now I'm working on a zip up jacket for my youngest.  I'm working on the Joseph pattern from knitty using leftover yarn from my stash. Considering his fleece jackets from last year are too small, I think making him a decent fall jacket would be a good mommy thing to do.

Not much to say, hence the reason why I haven't posted in a few days. How many times can you say "gosh, we've been busy!", without sounding like a broken record or at least, very, very boring.

My two eldest children are in French Immersion.  My oldest, being a typical eldest sibling, has taken it upon himself to teach his sister French. Of course, my daughter, being a typical sibling, likes to push his buttons. Last night, at dinner, the conversation went like this:

Cole: "Kass, say, in French, How are you doing?"

Kass: "In French, how are you doing?"

Cole: "No, Kass!  Say, in french, how are you doing?"

Kass: "In French, how are you doing?"

You get the point by now.  I had to leave the dinner table as I was either going to kill myself laughing or kill one of them because they were bickering, again.

I've decided that I want to make Swallowtail from Interweave Knits.   I visited my LYS only to find that she had two choices of lace weight to choose from.  A mohair and this.   Oh, and some natural colour alpaca in a chocolate brown.  I bought the JaggerSpun Zephyr Wool-Silk but was surprised as to the lack of selection. With lace being the newest "hot" thing in knitting, I thought there would be more of a selection.

There's no pictures of knitting today. The socks are still being knit (I heart Austermann Step!) and the wristlets is only a wristlet. I went for a walk today and froze my ass off. Guess I better get moving on its mate and mittens for my kids. As a knitter, I think it's my parental duty to supply mittens for my children.
